Xenon Universal : the universal workstation
by Spanish OFITA, Designer Josep Lluskä.
Ofita is 40 years old. The company was born in
Vitoria in 1969, specializes in the manufacture of
office furniture, and has become a reference in
this field. We were conquered by Xenon Universal,
the first universal office furniture system, that is to
say compatible for all, even for people with functional
disabilities. Unlike some previous approaches,
this system features universal designs for all
environments: tables, storage, reception and meeting
areas... and not just for one item. Some of the
solutions: Edges have been removed from work
surfaces and replaced by alternatives in soft polyurethane
that avoid aggressive areas and possible
accidents; table areas designed in contrasting
colours for users with partial visual impairment; Hleg
spaces between studs allowing easy movement
for people in wheelchairs; mobile skirting on
the table, which enables positioning of people in
wheelchairs on the operator's or visitor's sides;
tables with height adjustment by simply pushing a
handle, and a slot for the control module of electric
wheelchairs amongst other functional solutions.
The removable skirt of the table also allows the
installation of wheelchair users, on the side of the
user as that of the visitor. A single lever lets you
adjust the height of the table. An opening is used to
control the electric wheelchair. Moreover, it is not
limited to a particular type of functional diversity,
and allows incorporating advanced solutions
(computing, telematics, home automation...), in
addition to the traditional mechanical ones.
